Maritime transport is crucial for global trade and economic development: port efficiency and productivity boost trade competitiveness and growth. While container ports are critical nodes in global supply chains—supporting trade, jobs, and economic growth.
Efficient ports reduce costs, improve supply chain reliability, and lower emissions by minimizing delays and fuel use. Also, improving port efficiency speeds the transportation of goods and reduces logistics costs and delays. Their performance confirms their role as gateways not just for their own countries, but for entire regions, setting a high bar for operational excellence.

The 2025 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) evaluates the performance of 400 ports worldwide by measuring the time between a vessel’s arrival at anchorage and its departure from the berth after cargo operations have been completed. The index provides a widely used benchmark for assessing port efficiency around the world.
