Mali’s Armed Forces (FAMa) said they killed at least 50 members of armed terrorist groups, including several commanders, during strikes carried out on Saturday, about 45 km northeast of Abeïbara in the Kidal region.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the General Staff of the Armed Forces, at least one group of suspected militants was targeted as part of Operation Dougoukoloko, conducted with the support of partner forces.
The operation followed intelligence gathering and sharing that enabled the military to identify several concentrations of armed group fighters and the presence of some of their leaders.
After the information was verified and the situation assessed, the identified positions were struck, resulting in the killing of at least 50 fighters, including senior figures, and the destruction of several items of military equipment, the statement said.
The military command added that surveillance and reconnaissance operations remain ongoing in the area to assess the impact of the strikes, establish a consolidated casualty assessment and identify any remaining threats.
The operation comes as FAMa continues its military campaign under Operation Dougoukoloko.
The Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces (DIRPA) reported 214 airstrikes against what it described as terrorist targets and estimated that around 1,000 militants had been “neutralised” across various theatres of operation in August.
The high command reiterated its determination to continue security operations throughout the country and called on the population to maintain its support for the armed forces.
