Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch welcomed his Guinean counterpart, Bah Oury in Rabat on Thursday during a high-level meeting that illustrates the deepening of bilateral relations between Morocco and Guinea.
This meeting, which was also attended by Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, was an opportunity to address major issues, including strengthening cooperation in strategic sectors, consolidating South-South ties and promoting regional stability.
The discussions highlighted the historic and solid relations between the two countries, strengthened by the state visits of King Mohammed VI to Guinea in 2014 and 2017. These relations, based on lasting friendship, are part of a shared vision of partnership and solidarity for development.
During the meeting, Messrs. Akhannouch and Bah reaffirmed their commitment to promoting sustainable economic growth and inclusive social development. Morocco expressed its willingness to support Guinea in priority areas such as agriculture, fisheries, health and industry, thus contributing to strengthening Guinean national capacities.
This cooperation is fully in line with the continental strategy pursued by the kingdom, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, which aims to promote African solidarity and inter-African partnership as levers for development.
Furthermore, Aziz Akhannouch welcomed Guinea’s consistent position in favour of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, a support materialised by the opening of a Guinean consulate in Dakhla in 2020.
This approach illustrates Guinea’s commitment to Morocco’s territorial integrity.
The discussions also focused on concrete mechanisms aimed at boosting economic cooperation, particularly within the framework of the South-South strategy. Based on the agreements reached at the seventh session of the Morocco-Guinea Joint Commission, held last July, the two parties committed to diversifying and deepening their partnership.
These commitments include, in particular, the promotion of public-private partnerships and an increased focus on key sectors such as vocational training, energy and food security.
During the July session, co-chaired by Nasser Bourita and his Guinean counterpart Morissanda Kouyaté, Guinea reaffirmed its support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as a serious and credible solution
to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
Guinea also welcomed Morocco’s leadership in promoting peace and development on the continent.
The two countries stressed their alignment on strategic priorities for Africa, including the effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
They stressed the importance of inter-African cooperation as a model for responding to economic
challenges and strengthening regional stability.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to further consolidate their bilateral relations and work together towards common goals of peace, prosperity and sustainable development for the entire African
continent, thus elevating their partnership to an emblematic model of South-South solidarity.
