Burkina Faso has acquired a new state-of-the-art biometric passport, APA has learnt.
According to the Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, the new Burkina Faso passport meets the international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
This travel document contains several innovations. According to the minister, it has an electronic chip with greater data storage capacity and incorporates state-of-the-art security features.
The new passports will be produced by a Chinese company that won the contract, worth almost 20 billion FCFA, by direct agreement at the end of April 2024.
Another striking feature of the new passport is the absence of the ECOWAS logo.
Burkina Faso announced quitting the sub-regional organisation in January 2024, along with Mali and Niger, with whom it had established the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
