Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre has said his country has come a long way to modernise and manage the development of its financial system, which is ten years old on Monday.
PM Abdi Barre, speaking at an event to present the achievements of the country’s financial management, noted that his country today has a strong, modern and reliable system, which has led to the forgiveness of its debt, and is leading to change in terms of financial and real development.
“The process of the country’s financial system brought together all the processes that were going through the construction of the country’s institutions for reconstruction, which shows us that we have matured and the debt has been forgiven, the ban on arms has been removed, and we have joined the regional markets” he explained.
”I want to underline that the Somali people know that this process did not come for free and that they have been waiting for many nights, so that this success can be confirmed” PM Barre added.
Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, thanked the Ministry of Finance for their efforts and the experts who have kept faith in the process for the past 10 years (2013-2023), which was the backbone of the financial achievements realised.
He urged them to strengthen their efforts for other milestones.
Prime Minister Hamsa told the agencies working with the government that the projects they are implementing should go through the government system given that Somalia can now boast of a reliable financial system which can hold its own against any in the region.
