Abstract: Magic as a concept and practice still raises great question marks, especially in pagan African societies, whose lives revolve around these magical practices and religious beliefs, in which the magician has the decisive say in everything related to the life of the individual and the group. Today, a large segment of the African people continues to believe in magic and sorcery; A belief that the mind can hardly imagine, sanctifies magicians and charlatans, and works hard to implement their orders and commandments in every aspect of their social, economic, political and moral life. In view of the serious impact of these beliefs, we will try in this paper to reveal the truth about African magic and the extent of its impact on the life of that aforementioned segment, through several investigations, beginning with an introduction to magic, then magic in African languages ... a reading in connotation, magic and witchcraft in African beliefs and will shed light on the historical dimension of practicing magic, general characteristics of magic in Africa, types of magic in Africa, methods of transferring magic from one person to another, African magic in light of the development of the era, and initiatives to address and reduce the phenomenon of magic.
الملخص: لا يزال السحر كمفهوم وكممارسة يطرح علامات استفهام كبيرة، خاصة في المجتمعات الإفريقية الوثنية، التي تتمحور حياتها حول هذه الممارسات السحرية والمعتقدات الدينية، التي يكون فيها للساحر الكلمة الفيصل في كلّ ما يتعلق بحياة الفرد والجماعة. شريحةٌ كبيرة من الشعب الإفريقي، اليوم، لا تفتأ تؤمن بالسحر والشعوذة؛ إيماناً لا يكاد العقل يتصوره، وتُقدّس السحرة والمشعوذين، وتعمل جاهدةً على تنفيذ أوامرهم ووصاياهم في كلّ عارض من عوارض حياتهم الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والسياسية والأخلاقية. ونظراً للتأثير الخطير لهذه المعتقدات سنحاول في هذه الورقة الكشف عن حقيقة السحر الإفريقي ومدى قوة تأثيره على حياة تلك الشريحة المشار إليها، وذلك من خلال عدة مباحث، تبدأ بتعريف بالسحر، ثم السحر في اللغات الإفريقية.. قراءة في الدلالة، والسحر والساحر في المعتقدات الإفريقية، وإلقاء الضوء على البعد التاريخي لممارسة السحر، والخصائص العامة للسحر في إفريقيا، وأنواع السحر في إفريقيا، وطرق نقل السحر من شخص إلى آخر، والسحر الإفريقي في ظل تطور العصر، ومبادرات لمعالجة ظاهرة السحر والحد منها.
