Russia has agreed to work with Ghana on developing a 2,000-megawatt \u200bnuclear power plant following talks at \u200cthe Russia-Africa Summit, Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The project is \u200baimed at strengthening energy security and \u200bindustrialization, Ablakwa said in a statement \u2060on X.<\/p>\n
The announcement came a day \u200bafter Russia’s state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, said \u200bit was in talks with four African countries, including Ghana, on large nuclear power projects.<\/p>\n
First \u200bheld in 2019, the Russia-Africa Summit \u200bis part of a concerted push by Moscow \u200cto \u2060deepen economic ties with Africa through energy cooperation.<\/p>\n
The two countries also agreed to deepen defense ties through a new \u200bpact covering \u200bassets for \u2060Ghana’s military.<\/p>\n
Ablakwa said Russian President Vladimir Putin had barred the \u200bparticipation of Ghanaians in Russia’s \u200bwar \u2060in Ukraine, including through irregular recruitment or voluntary enlistment.<\/p>\n
