Senegal’s \u200bPrime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo told \u200cparliament on Tuesday that the West African nation will not pursue a restructuring of its debt, opting instead \u200bto reprofile.<\/p>\n
The International Monetary Fund and Senegal \u200bannounced last week that they had reached \u2060a staff-level agreement for a $2.2 billion, three-year loan \u200bpackage. The previous lending programme was suspended in \u200b2024 after the disclosure of misreported debt under the previous government.<\/p>\n
Senegal’s Ministry of Economy and Finance said at \u200bthe time that it had agreed to \u200ban “enhanced common framework” to restore “debt sustainability”. It did not disclose what measures \u200cit \u2060would take.<\/p>\n
“It is not a restructuring, it is reprofiling,” Lo said on Tuesday in remarks to lawmakers. “Reprofiling involves extending maturities and renegotiating interest \u200brates.”<\/p>\n
Lo added that \u200broughly \u206030 mining agreements are currently being renegotiated.<\/p>\n
