Niger has blamed France for inciting an attack on a key military airbase \u200bby mutinous soldiers last week, according \u200cto a government statement read on TV on Friday.<\/p>\n
Mutinous soldiers in the West African country attacked the \u200bairport and the presidency in the capital, \u200bNiamey,\u00a0on August 29, the latest threat to \u2060the rule of Abdourahamane Tiani, who seized \u200bpower in a 2023 coup.<\/p>\n
Explosions and gunfire also \u200brang out at a military airbase, but Niger’s army, backed by Russian paramilitary forces, regained control over it \u200bthe next day.<\/p>\n
The Council of Ministers on \u200bFriday concluded that the attack had been incited by \u200ca \u2060vast network of accomplices led by France, according to the statement.<\/p>\n
“A substantial body of evidence has been compiled regarding this attack, and Niger \u200breserves the \u200bright to \u2060bring the matter before international courts,” the government said in the \u200bstatement.<\/p>\n
The attack highlighted tensions within Niger’s armed \u200bforces, \u2060which have suffered repeated battlefield losses while fighting a jihadist insurgency.<\/p>\n
