Kenya’s President William Ruto said on Thursday he \u200bhad ordered India’s Tata Chemicals\u00a0to stop \u200cits operations in Kenya, saying its presence had failed to benefit the country.<\/p>\n
Ruto said the government would \u200bbring in two new companies to \u200btake over operations for Tata Chemicals.<\/p>\n
In late \u2060July, Tata had said Kenya’s government \u200bhad ordered its unit Tata Chemical Limited \u200bto suspend its operations at the Magadi Soda factory and suspended any exports of soda ash.<\/p>\n
“That TATA \u200bcompany … had that contract for 100 \u200byears. They have not built anything in Kajiado, \u200cthey \u2060have not built any factory in Kajiado,” Ruto said during a visit to the region in southern Kenya.<\/p>\n
“We have said we \u200bwill bring \u200ba \u2060new company and… they should put a big glass company here \u200bin Kajiado. And another company \u200bto \u2060make chemicals here in Kajiado. Are we slaves to other people?”<\/p>\n
