Tanzania has relaxed its foreign exchange rules to allow \u200ball overseas investors to buy \u200cgovernment-issued Treasury bills and bonds, the central bank said.<\/p>\n
The bank said in a \u200bstatement on Thursday that the \u200bmove was aimed at deepening \u2060domestic financial markets and promoting Tanzania \u200bas an investment destination.<\/p>\n
Previously, only \u200bresidents of the East African Community, the Southern African Development Community and the Tanzanian \u200bdiaspora could participate in the \u200bgovernment securities market.<\/p>\n
President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration is \u200clooking \u2060for new revenue sources amid cuts in aid from international partners.<\/p>\n
Hassan won a disputed election last year, \u200bwhich \u200bopponents say \u2060she rigged and was marred by unrest over \u200bthe exclusion of her main \u200bchallengers.<\/p>\n
