South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has dismissed the country’s central \u200bbank governor, the latest in \u200ca series of sackings and reshuffles in senior ranks of his government.<\/p>\n
Kiir announced the \u200bremoval of Johnny Ohisa late \u200bon Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Kiir, who did not give \u2060a reason for the sacking in \u200bthe decree read on the state \u200bbroadcaster, replaced Ohisa with Addis Ababa Othow, who held the same position between June and \u200bNovember last year.<\/p>\n
In recent months \u200bKiir has made a series of sweeping changes \u200cin \u2060senior ranks of his government, which analysts say signal an effort to consolidate power amid succession uncertainty.<\/p>\n
Ohisa, an \u200beconomist who \u200bhas served \u2060multiple terms as central bank governor in the past, \u200bwas reappointed earlier this year \u200bafter \u2060previously holding the position on two separate occasions.<\/p>\n
South Sudan’s economy has faced \u2060mounting \u200bpressure from declining oil \u200brevenues, recurring cash shortages, high inflation and currency \u200bdepreciation.<\/p>\n
