Zambia’s former Vice President Guy Scott, who in 2014 became Africa’s \u200bfirst white head of state \u200cin two decades when he briefly served as acting president, has died at the age \u200bof 82, the government said \u200bon Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Scott died in Lusaka at his \u2060farm in the Leopards Hill area \u200bafter an illness, the government said \u200bin a statement.<\/p>\n
Scott served as vice president under “King Cobra” Michael Sata from 2011 to 2014 and \u200bbecame acting president after Sata’s death \u200bin October 2014, serving until January 2015.<\/p>\n
Scott’s brief \u200ctenure \u2060made him Africa’s first white head of state in two decades, since South Africa’s F.W. de Klerk left office \u200bin 1994.<\/p>\n
A \u200bCambridge-educated economist \u2060born in Zambia to Scottish parents, Scott was constitutionally barred \u200bfrom running in the subsequent \u200bpresidential \u2060election because both his parents were not born in Zambia.<\/p>\n
