Kenya’s government said on Tuesday it was extending a reduction \u200bin Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum \u200cproducts for another three months to mid-October to cushion households and businesses from volatility \u200bin global energy prices.<\/p>\n
The East \u200bAfrican country in April cut VAT \u2060on petroleum products from 16% to \u200b8% for three months, after crude \u200boil prices surged because of the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Tuesday, Energy \u200band Petroleum Minister Opiyo Wandayi said \u200bthe government would also deploy a subsidy to \u200cthe \u2060tune of 945 million shillings ($7.31 million) to sustain current price levels in the July-August fuel pricing cycle.<\/p>\n
Wandayi sought \u200bto reassure \u200bKenyans that \u2060fuel was readily available despite renewed hostilities between the \u200bU.S. and Iran.<\/p>\n
Kenya typically imports \u200bnearly \u2060all of its fuel products from the Middle East via government-to-government deals.<\/p>\n
