The \u200bEbola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of \u200cCongo and Uganda is continuing to outpace response efforts, World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus \u200bsaid on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
“Despite the good progress we \u200bhave made, we still face major challenges, \u2060and the outbreak is continuing to \u200boutpace the response,” Tedros told a press conference.<\/p>\n
He \u200badded that the global risk from the Ebola outbreak remained low, but called for measures to contain \u200bthe outbreak of the rare Bundibugyo strain \u200bof the virus to be scaled up further.<\/p>\n
“Contact-tracing is inadequate, \u200ctreatment \u2060capacity is insufficient, and safe burials remain a major challenge, with the health system under pressure,” Tedros told reporters.<\/p>\n
The epicentre of \u200bthe Ebola outbreak \u200bis in \u2060Congo, where 1,094 confirmed cases, including 277 deaths, have been recorded. Uganda \u200bhas confirmed 20 cases and two \u200bdeaths.<\/p>\n
A \u2060senior WHO official\u00a0said\u00a0on Tuesday that the outbreak had the largest number of confirmed cases \u2060within \u200bthe first month of \u200bany episode of the disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
