Kenya’s health minister said on Tuesday he \u200bhad ordered an immediate halt to the construction \u200cof a U.S.-backed Ebola quarantine facility at an air base after he was found guilty of\u00a0contempt of court\u00a0for failing to observe \u200bsuspension orders.<\/p>\n
Health Minister Aden Duale was appearing before \u200ba Kenyan court that has blocked construction of the \u2060tented facility near the central town of Nanyuki, which \u200bhas seen deadly protests over the plan.<\/p>\n
The facility is intended \u200bto host Americans exposed to Ebola during an ongoing outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo, which has recorded over 1,000 cases.<\/p>\n
Satellite imagery from \u200bJune 22 reviewed by Reuters showed a build-up of \u200btents, an increase in the amount of area paved, and progress in \u200cconstruction \u2060including structures that appeared to be containers, compared with images reviewed earlier in the month.<\/p>\n
In her sentencing, Justice Patricia Nyaundi Mande warned Duale against further disobedience and discharged him \u200bwith no \u200bpunishment.<\/p>\n
Flights carrying medical \u2060equipment and specialist staff have\u00a0continued to arrive\u00a0at the air base despite the court \u200borders, according to flight-tracking data and U.S. and \u200bdiplomatic \u2060sources.<\/p>\n
