Namibia’s communications regulator said on Monday it dismissed an appeal by Starlink \u200bagainst the rejection of its license applications, \u200creaffirming that\u00a0Elon Musk’s\u00a0satellite internet provider failed to meet local ownership requirements.<\/p>\n
The Communications Regulatory Authority of \u200bNamibia (CRAN)\u00a0rejected\u00a0Starlink’s applications for a telecommunications \u200bservice license and radio spectrum access in \u2060March, citing non-compliance with ownership and control \u200brequirements under the country’s Communications Act.<\/p>\n
“Starlink’s application \u200bremained non-compliant with the ownership and control requirements under section 46 of the Communications Act, No. 8, 2009,” \u200bsaid CRAN in a statement.<\/p>\n
The regulator \u200badded that Starlink’s reconsideration application was filed after the \u200cstatutory \u2060deadline, which expired on April 23.<\/p>\n
CRAN received 624 reconsideration requests from the public, 622 of which were dismissed for failing to meet \u200bprocedural and \u200bjurisdictional requirements.<\/p>\n
The \u2060two submissions that met the threshold introduced no new facts and \u200bidentified no material error in the \u200boriginal \u2060decision, the regulator said.<\/p>\n
“CRAN affirms that the reconsideration of requests did not provide a sufficient \u2060legal \u200bor factual basis to alter \u200bthe original decision,” it added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
