Namibia said on Friday that Paris-based financial crime watchdog the \u200bFinancial Action Task Force (FATF) was \u200cremoving it from its “grey list” of countries under special scrutiny to implement standards to \u200bprevent money laundering and terrorism \u200bfinancing.<\/p>\n
Namibia’s finance ministry said in a \u2060statement that the FATF made the \u200bannouncement on Friday afternoon at a \u200bplenary meeting.<\/p>\n
The FATF is wrapping up several days of meetings on Friday and is expected \u200bto announce the decisions of \u200bthose meetings later in the day.<\/p>\n
The FATF did \u200cnot \u2060immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.<\/p>\n
Namibia was placed on the ‘grey list’ in February 2024 due to \u200b13 deficiencies \u200bin its \u2060systems to combat money laundering and terrorism financing.<\/p>\n
The Southern \u200bAfrican country’s finance ministry said \u200ban \u2060on-site assessment by the FATF was successful after the watchdog earlier found \u2060it \u200bhad largely addressed the \u200b13 deficiencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
