Africa’s top oil producer \u200bis grappling with a 17-year insurgency \u200bled by\u00a0Boko Haram\u00a0and Islamic State West \u2060Africa Province (ISWAP) in the country’s northeast. The conflict \u200bhas killed thousands and displaced at least 2 \u200bmillion people, aid groups say.<\/p>\n
Eighty-four suspects are due in court on Tuesday, joining about 490 already on trial \u200bsince Monday at a federal court in \u200bAbuja, Fagbemi said. Another 102 cases have been carried \u200cover \u2060from a previous trial.<\/p>\n
“The message is to let everybody know that terrorism in whatever shape or form is not to be condoned or \u200btolerated,” Fagbemi \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n
Proceedings this \u2060week mark the fourth phase of terrorism trials under President Bola Tinubu. \u200bOver the past decade, mass trials \u200bhave \u2060become a key part of the Nigerian government’s strategy to counter militancy.<\/p>\n
