India and the African Union (AU) have decided to postpone \u200bthe India-Africa Forum Summit scheduled to be \u200cheld next week in New Delhi, due to the “emerging public health situation” in Africa, India’s foreign ministry said \u200bon Thursday, in an apparent reference to \u200bthe Ebola outbreak.<\/p>\n
The fourth India\u2013Africa \u2060Forum Summit was scheduled to take place \u200bin New Delhi from May 28 to May \u200b31.<\/p>\n
The summit of ministers and leaders aimed to deepen cooperation on trade, investment, innovation, development, digital technology, sustainability and \u200bglobal governance.<\/p>\n
After discussing the “evolving health situation in parts \u200bof Africa”, India and the AU agreed that it would \u200cbe “advisable” \u2060to hold the summit at a later date, the foreign ministry said in a statement. It did not elaborate on the health concerns.<\/p>\n
The Democratic \u200bRepublic of \u200bCongo has \u2060been facing an outbreak of a rare\u00a0Ebola strain for which there is no \u200bvaccine.<\/p>\n
The World Health Organization said on \u200bWednesday that\u00a0600 \u2060suspected cases\u00a0and 139 suspected deaths have been recorded so far in the outbreak that started \u2060two \u200bmonths ago.<\/p>\n
