Felicien Kabuga, a suspect in \u200bthe 1994 Rwanda genocide, has died in \u200ccustody, a U.N. court said on Saturday. He was 93.<\/p>\n
Kabuga was arrested in France in 2020 after \u200bmore than two decades on the \u200brun and extradited to The Hague. He \u2060was later ruled unfit to stand trial \u200bbecause of dementia and was also deemed too \u200bill to return to Rwanda.<\/p>\n
With no country willing to accept him, Kabuga remained in the U.N. detention centre \u200bin The Hague. The court said it \u200bhad ordered an inquiry into the circumstances of his \u200cdeath.<\/p>\n
The \u2060former businessman and radio station owner was among the last fugitives sought over the genocide, in which Hutu extremists killed more than 800,000 \u200bTutsis and \u200bmoderate Hutus \u2060in 100 days.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors accused Kabuga of promoting hate speech through his \u200bbroadcaster Radio Television Libre des Mille \u200bCollines \u2060and of helping arm ethnic Hutu militias.<\/p>\n
