Borno, which is roughly \u200bthe same size as Ireland, has endured \u2060an insurgency waged by Boko Haram \u200band its splinter group Islamic State West Africa \u200bProvince for 17 years that has killed thousands and displaced 2 million people.<\/p>\n
Military spokesperson Sani Uba said \u200btroops working with air force units and \u200blocal auxiliaries carried out offensives in the Timbuktu axis \u200cand \u2060Bulabulin forest, targeting hideouts and supply networks. Eleven terrorists were killed in Bulabulin and seven in the Timbuktu area, Uba said \u200bin a statement.<\/p>\n
The \u200boperations \u2060form part of an ongoing campaign aimed at dismantling insurgent strongholds \u200bacross the region after a recent assault \u200bon \u2060military bases that\u00a0killed several troops\u00a0including\u00a0senior officers.<\/p>\n
