{"id":20649,"date":"2026-04-28T14:03:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T14:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/?p=20649"},"modified":"2026-04-28T14:03:54","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T14:03:54","slug":"uganda-to-offer-new-oil-exploration-licensing-round-in-2026-27-financial-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/20649\/uganda-to-offer-new-oil-exploration-licensing-round-in-2026-27-financial-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda to offer new oil exploration licensing round in 2026\/27 financial year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uganda will offer a new oil exploration licensing round next financial year, its \u200bminister for energy and mineral development said \u200con Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The East African country, which expects to start commercial crude production later this year, is keen \u200bto expand its resource base through potential \u200bnew discoveries.<\/p>\n<p>Ruth Nankabirwa, the minister, told a \u2060petroleum conference that Uganda would offer its third \u200bpetroleum exploration licensing round in the financial year \u200bthat starts in July.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This will offer new exploration blocks in the Albertine Graben and frontier basins,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda&#8217;s \u200blast licensing round, in which five blocks \u200bwere on offer, was launched in 2019 and concluded in \u200c2023.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2060country&#8217;s existing reserves, estimated at about 6.5 billion barrels, are all in the Albertine Graben, which straddles Uganda&#8217;s border with the Democratic Republic \u200bof Congo. The \u200benergy \u2060ministry says only 40% of that region has been explored so far.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bgovernment is also doing preliminary exploration \u200bsurveys in \u2060two new basins, Moroto-Kadam and Kyoga, located in the country&#8217;s north and northeast, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda&#8217;s existing oil \u2060fields \u200bare co-owned and operated \u200bby France&#8217;s TotalEnergies\u00a0and China&#8217;s CNOOC alongside Uganda&#8217;s state-owned petroleum firm, \u200bUNOC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Uganda will offer a new oil exploration licensing round next financial year, its \u200bminister for energy and mineral development said \u200con Tuesday.
