{"id":20640,"date":"2026-04-28T13:38:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T13:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/?p=20640"},"modified":"2026-04-28T13:38:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T13:38:37","slug":"ghana-military-convoy-attack-kills-three-civilians-seven-assailants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/20640\/ghana-military-convoy-attack-kills-three-civilians-seven-assailants\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana military convoy attack kills three civilians, seven assailants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Ghanaian military convoy protecting 140 civilians came under fire in the \u200bnorthern town of Binduri on Monday, resulting \u200cin the death of three of the people being escorted and one injury, the armed forces said.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The convoy was \u200btravelling in Ghana&#8217;s Upper East Region from \u200bBawku towards Bolga when unidentified assailants opened fire \u2060on it multiple times, the armed forces \u200bsaid in a statement.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0town of Bawku has been gripped \u200bby violence rooted in a protracted dispute between the Mamprusi and Kusasi ethnic groups over who can appoint a chief \u200bfor the area.<\/li>\n<li>The cycle of violence has \u200bresulted in more than 300 casualties since 2021, with the conflict \u200cspreading \u2060beyond Bawku\u2019s municipal boundaries into neighbouring Binduri.<\/li>\n<li>Ghana&#8217;s Interior Ministry imposed a nightly curfew on Binduri Township in March 2025 before lifting it in February \u200b2026 following an \u200bimprovement in \u2060<\/li>\n<li>Soldiers responded to Monday&#8217;s attack, killing seven of the assailants, the military \u200bsaid.
