Sierra Leone has signed an agreement with Shell\u00a0\u200bthat allows the oil major to conduct \u200cadvanced geological and geophysical surveys across multiple offshore blocks, the country’s petroleum directorate said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The \u200breconnaissance permit agreement covers an area of \u200bapproximately 20,600 square kilometres and includes basin \u2060modelling and petroleum systems analysis, a statement \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n
The programme, similar to one signed with \u200bEni\u00a0last October, is expected to enhance understanding of Sierra Leone’s deepwater\u00a0hydrocarbon potential.<\/p>\n
The permit will provide a data-driven \u200bframework for technical evaluation and potential future \u200bparticipation in licensing opportunities, the Petroleum Directorate of Sierra \u200cLeone (PDSL) \u2060said.<\/p>\n
“Our strategy is deliberately focused on de-risking the basin through high-quality data, attracting credible global players and accelerating the pathway towards exploration \u200bdrilling,” Foday \u200bMansaray, PDSL \u2060director general, said in the statement.<\/p>\n
Shell said the company routinely deals \u200bwith governments through non-binding agreements to \u200baccess \u2060data and assess potential opportunities.<\/p>\n
