Brazilian President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva said on Monday that United States President Donald Trump had no right to bar South African President Cyril Ramaphosa from attending the upcoming G20 summit in Miami.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Hannover, Germany, alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Lula said:\u00a0“I told Ramaphosa that he must attend the G20. He must attend. He can\u2019t not go just because Trump said he wouldn\u2019t.”<\/p>\n
Relations\u00a0have been strained\u00a0between South Africa and the Trump administration, which\u00a0expelled former Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool following his criticism of Trump.<\/p>\n
Trump has targeted South Africa and\u00a0cut all financial assistance\u00a0after accusing the government of allowing\u00a0a \u201cwhite genocide\u201d against the white Afrikaner minority group, claiming they were being racially targeted and killed.<\/p>\n
Trump implemented a programme\u00a0offering migration and asylum\u00a0to white Afrikaners who feel persecuted in South Africa.<\/p>\n
