Wadagni\u2019s main challenger, Paul Hounkpe, conceded defeat even before the final count was complete, offering his \u201crepublican congratulations\u201d and calling for unity beyond political divides.<\/p>\n
Despite the landslide, turnout was uneven, particularly in urban areas where participation ranged between 20 and 40 percent in some polling stations.<\/p>\n
Overall turnout stood at 58.75 percent, with observers praising a generally peaceful and well-organised vote.<\/p>\n
Backed by outgoing president Patrice Talon, Wadagni\u2019s victory signals continuity after a decade of economic growth and infrastructure expansion.<\/p>\n
However, major challenges remain, including high poverty levels and a widening wealth gap, as well as rising jihadist violence in the country\u2019s north.<\/p>\n
