{"id":19686,"date":"2026-02-04T15:05:41","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T15:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/?p=19686"},"modified":"2026-02-04T15:05:41","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T15:05:41","slug":"ghanas-consumer-inflation-slows-for-13th-consecutive-month-in-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/19686\/ghanas-consumer-inflation-slows-for-13th-consecutive-month-in-january\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana&#8217;s consumer inflation slows for 13th consecutive month in January"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__small__sph8i body-module__full_width__kCIGb body-module__small_body__gOmDf article-body-module__paragraph__Ts-yF\" data-testid=\"paragraph-0\">\n<p>\u00a0Ghana&#8217;s consumer inflation\u00a0slowed for the 13th consecutive month to 3.8% year-on-year in January from 5.4% in December, signalling price stability in the cocoa-producing West African nation, its statistics service said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The drop of 1.6 percentage points was driven by the decline in food inflation, which fell to 3.9%, Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu told a news conference.<\/p>\n<p>It is the lowest inflation rate recorded since Ghana&#8217;s Consumer Price Index was rebased in 2021, Iddrisu said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sustained decline signals that Ghana is firmly on a path towards price stability,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The decline marks a continuation of the sharp downward trajectory that has seen inflation drop from the record rate of 54.1% in December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The further decline in inflation provides the Bank of Ghana with more room to keep easing monetary policy, after a series of rate cuts that have reduced its main lending rate by a cumulative\u00a012.5\u00a0percentage points since last July.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An exceptionally low inflation print that leaves the door to further easing in Ghana wide open,&#8221; said Razia Khan, chief economist for Africa and the Middle East at Standard Chartered Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation is now below the Bank of Ghana&#8217;s 8% target, with a 2% tolerance range, but Governor Johnson Asiama said\u00a0after the last\u00a0monetary policy committee meeting in January that it is too soon for the central bank to reassess the target.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana is emerging from its most severe economic crisis in decades, and it is expected to complete a three-year IMF support programme in August.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Ghana&#8217;s consumer inflation\u00a0slowed for the 13th consecutive month to 3.8% year-on-year in January from 5.4% in December, signalling price stability in the cocoa-producing West African nation, its statistics service said on Wednesday.
