{"id":1935,"date":"2022-02-01T14:02:51","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T14:02:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/?p=1935"},"modified":"2022-02-01T14:02:51","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T14:02:51","slug":"burkina-faso-junta-dismisses-army-and-intelligence-chiefs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/1935\/burkina-faso-junta-dismisses-army-and-intelligence-chiefs\/","title":{"rendered":"Burkina Faso junta dismisses army and intelligence chiefs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-reactid=\".vu573sx7h8.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61f8bc880a22d424c588b810.0.6.0.0:$post_1\">A day after the African Union joined regional bloc Ecowas in <a href=\"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/2022\/01\/31\/ecowas-and-un-to-assess-burkina-fasos-situation-after-coup\/\">suspending<\/a> Burkina Faso as member over last week&#8217;s coup, reports indicate that the military junta that took power has dismissed the army and intelligence chiefs.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".vu573sx7h8.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61f8bc880a22d424c588b810.0.6.0.0:$post_2\">The former army chief, Brig Gen Gilbert Ou\u00e9draogo, has been replaced by the head of the junta Lt Col Paul-Henri Damiba &#8211; who will also serve as the country&#8217;s president.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".vu573sx7h8.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61f8bc880a22d424c588b810.0.6.0.0:$post_3\">The junta &#8211; which is officially known as the Patriotic Movement for Preservation and Restoration (MPSR) &#8211; also sacked intelligence chief Sr Col Francois Ou\u00e9draogo.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".vu573sx7h8.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61f8bc880a22d424c588b810.0.6.0.0:$post_4\">He was replaced by Sr Col Cyprien Kabor\u00e9, a member of the junta.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".vu573sx7h8.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61f8bc880a22d424c588b810.0.6.0.0:$post_5\">The junta also restored the country&#8217;s constitution, which was suspended after it ousted the president during the 23 January coup.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".vu573sx7h8.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61f8bc880a22d424c588b810.0.6.0.0:$post_6\">There&#8217;s been concern about the health of Burkina Faso&#8217;s ousted President Roch Kabor\u00e9 and demands for his release from house arrest.
