{"id":19256,"date":"2026-01-13T14:46:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T14:46:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/?p=19256"},"modified":"2026-01-13T14:46:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T14:46:15","slug":"niger-revokes-licenses-of-truckers-refusing-to-deliver-fuel-to-mali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/19256\/niger-revokes-licenses-of-truckers-refusing-to-deliver-fuel-to-mali\/","title":{"rendered":"Niger revokes licenses of truckers refusing to deliver fuel to Mali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Niger has revoked the licenses of around thirty transport operators and truck drivers for refusing to transport fuel to neighboring Mali, which is facing shortages due to a jihadist blockade.<\/p>\n<p>Niger\u00a0and\u00a0Mali, a landlocked country ruled by a junta, are allied with\u00a0Burkina Faso, which is also run by the military, and all three are facing an escalation in jihadist attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Mali experienced a severe fuel shortage in October and November after militants from the\u00a0Group to Support Jama&#8217;at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin\u00a0(JNIM), an\u00a0Al-Qaeda affiliate, cut off fuel supplies to several towns in this arid West African country.<\/p>\n<p>Niger, an oil-producing country, planned to send 82 fuel tankers to Bamako, the Malian capital, covering the 1,400 kilometers under military escort.<\/p>\n<p>Niger&#8217;s Ministry of Transport revoked the licenses of 14 carriers and 19 drivers for refusing to transport the fuel, according to a ministry statement seen by AFP on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Another operator received a one-year suspension. \u201cThis _refusal constitutes a serious violation of the legal and regulatory obligations in for_ce,\u201d said Transport Minister Abdourahamane Amadou.<\/p>\n<p>Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali have formed\u00a0the Alliance of Sahel\u00a0States, announced the creation of a 5,000-strong joint force and their three armies are jointly conducting operations against jihadists.<\/p>\n<p>Fuel supply problems are once again affecting some regions of Mali, including Bamako airport, where several flights have been canceled in recent days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Niger has revoked the licenses of around thirty transport operators and truck drivers for refusing to transport fuel to neighboring Mali, which is facing shortages due to a jihadist blockade.
