{"id":1886,"date":"2022-01-26T11:46:05","date_gmt":"2022-01-26T11:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/?p=1886"},"modified":"2022-01-26T11:46:05","modified_gmt":"2022-01-26T11:46:05","slug":"denmark-replies-mali-says-its-troops-are-in-the-west-african-country-on-basis-of-clear-invitation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/1886\/denmark-replies-mali-says-its-troops-are-in-the-west-african-country-on-basis-of-clear-invitation\/","title":{"rendered":"Denmark replies Mali, says its troops are in the West African country on basis of &#8220;clear invitation&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"article-content__content-group\">Denmark said on Tuesday its troops deployed to Mali as part of a French-led counter-terrorism task force were there on the basis of a \u201cclear invitation,\u201d responding to the Malian transitional government\u2019s continued demands for their immediate withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>The Danish government has reacted with puzzlement to <a href=\"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/2022\/01\/25\/takuba-mali-asks-denmark-to-immediately-withdraw-troops\/\">Mali\u2019s initial statement<\/a> on Sunday, which said it had not been consulted about the deployment last week of about 90 personnel, including special forces and surgeons.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"article-content__content-group\">The European force, know as Takuba, was set up to help Mali and West African Sahel neighbors Burkina Faso and Niger tackle militants linked to the Islamic State and al Qaeda who have occupied swathes of territory in the area where their borders meet.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Brussels, Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod said Danish troops were in Mali on the basis of a clear invitation, \u201cjust like the other parties in the operation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Denmark\u2019s foreign ministry said there was \u201cconsiderable uncertainty about the transitional government\u2019s announcement\u201d and that it was in contact with Mali\u2019s government.<\/p>\n<p>France also rejected as \u201cunfounded\u201d Mali\u2019s allegations and said it was discussing the situation with its European partners.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing reporters after a meeting with the chair of the African Union Commission, Malian Prime Minister Choguel Maiga insisted the government had not been informed of the deployment.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"article-content__content-group\">\u201cWe don\u2019t accept it. No one will come to Mali anymore by proxy,\u201d Maiga said. \u201cWhy have they come?
