{"id":1864,"date":"2022-01-25T10:18:39","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T10:18:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/?p=1864"},"modified":"2022-01-25T10:18:39","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T10:18:39","slug":"angolans-in-diaspora-to-vote-in-the-coming-general-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/1864\/angolans-in-diaspora-to-vote-in-the-coming-general-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Angolans in diaspora to vote in the coming general elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-reactid=\".2e66xbxhiky.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61ef82e7b6db6b318332b6ad.0.6.0.0:$post_1\">Angolans living in the diaspora are set to vote at the country\u2019s August general elections for the first time.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".2e66xbxhiky.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61ef82e7b6db6b318332b6ad.0.6.0.0:$post_2\">Authorities say they hope to register about 450,000 Angolans spread across the world.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".2e66xbxhiky.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61ef82e7b6db6b318332b6ad.0.6.0.0:$post_3\">M\u00e1rio Sousa, 53, who has lived in the UK since 2002, will be one of them and says this is an achievement for all Angolans living abroad.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".2e66xbxhiky.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61ef82e7b6db6b318332b6ad.0.6.0.0:$post_4\">So is Luzia Moniz, an Angolan journalist who has lived in Portugal for 33 years.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".2e66xbxhiky.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61ef82e7b6db6b318332b6ad.0.6.0.0:$post_5\">She says that diaspora voting is \u201ca first step towards what is needed to move the country forward as a democracy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".2e66xbxhiky.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61ef82e7b6db6b318332b6ad.0.6.0.0:$post_6\">However, Ms Moniz is concerned about the vote-counting process as the ruling party MPLA says votes from the diaspora will be counted at the electoral commission headquarters in Angola\u2019s capital Luanda.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\".2e66xbxhiky.1.0.1.1.1.1:$post-61ef82e7b6db6b318332b6ad.0.6.0.0:$post_7\">\u201cWe need more transparency in the voting process. It is not enough for the diaspora to vote.
