The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has launched a nationwide voter verification exercise to ensure the accuracy of the voters\u2019 roll ahead of general elections set for 16 September.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the launch event in Lilongwe, MEC chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja urged political parties to conduct responsible audits and cautioned against the spread of unverified claims on social media.<\/p>\n
\u201cDisinformation is a growing threat to electoral integrity globally, and Malawi is not immune,\u201d Mtalimanja said.<\/p>\n
She called on political leaders to protect voter data in line with privacy laws and to educate their supporters on identifying and rejecting fake news.<\/p>\n
The MEC chief encouraged eligible voters to confirm their names, photos and other details at the electoral body\u2019s designated registration centres across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
