{"id":15326,"date":"2025-02-17T14:03:29","date_gmt":"2025-02-17T14:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/?p=15326"},"modified":"2025-02-17T14:03:29","modified_gmt":"2025-02-17T14:03:29","slug":"nigeria-reduces-crude-oil-theft-to-5000bpd-official","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qiraatafrican.com\/en\/15326\/nigeria-reduces-crude-oil-theft-to-5000bpd-official\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria reduces crude oil theft to 5,000bpd \u2013 Official"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, says that the volume of stolen crude oil in the country has reduced to about 5,000 barrels per day, enabling oil production in Nigeria to rise to 1.75 million bpd as of January 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Renewed Hope Global Town Hall Conference in Abuja, Mr. Komolafe said that it was part of the reforms and achievements in Nigeria\u2019s oil and gas sector under the current administration.<\/p>\n<p>A press statement by the Head of Public Affairs and Corporate Communication, Olaide Shonola, on Sunday, said that this was achieved through kinetic and non-kinetic interventions.<\/p>\n<p>Komolafe explained that owing to the intervention, crude oil production that dipped to 1.1mbpd in 2022 has now soared to 1.7mbpd.<\/p>\n<p>He projected that oil production will increase by one million bpd by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOil theft that led to a drastic drop in production to 1.1 million bpd in 2022. He, however, noted that through kinetic and non-kinetic interventions, oil theft has significantly reduced to 5,000bpd, leading to a steady production increase to 1.7 million bpd,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>He further outlined the government\u2019s goal to boost production under the Project 1 MMBOPD initiative, which will rely on collaboration among operators, service providers, financiers, and host communities.<\/p>\n<p>Shedding light on the Nigeria Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme, Mr. Komolafe assured that the project is at the forefront of the country\u2019s energy transition strategy and aims to eliminate routine gas flaring, reduce methane emissions, and encourage carbon capture technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Carbon Credits Earning Framework seeks to monetise decarbonisation efforts while promoting sustainable energy practices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, says that the volume of stolen crude oil in the country has reduced to about 5,000 barrels per day, enabling oil production in Nigeria to rise to 1.75 million bpd as of January 2025.
