South Africa\u2019s governing African National Congress (ANC) has suspended former president Jacob Zuma following his recent remarks that he no longer supported the organisation.<\/p>\n
Zuma told supporters last December that he would not campaign or vote for the ANC under the current leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa whom he accused of victimising him.<\/p>\n
Instead, he announced that he would campaign for the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party which he is expected to lead in the forthcoming 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n
In its announcement following a meeting of the ANC\u2019s national executive committee on Monday, the party said it had decided to \u201csummarily suspend Jacob Zuma as a member\u201d after over 60 years in the ANC.<\/p>\n
The ANC constitution bars members from supporting or campaigning for other organisations whose objectives are not similar to theirs.<\/p>\n
The former president was given two days to respond to the suspension before it is taken to the disciplinary committee of the party for further action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
