Lamola added the move was needed for \u201cconfidence in the justice system to be restored\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Two inquests were held \u2013 in 1987 and 1993 \u2013 but \u201cproduced more questions than answers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called Cradock Four were abducted and murdered while returning home to the southern town of Cradock in June 1985 after a meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The bodies of the four \u2013 Matthew Goniwe, Sparrow Mkonto, Fort Calata and Sicelo Mhlauli \u2013 were discovered days later, badly burnt and with multiple stab wounds.<\/p>\n<p>The security forces under the apartheid regime were suspected of being behind the killings.\u00a0But no one has been brought to justice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa will reopen an inquiry into the murder of four anti-apartheid activists which became one of the era\u2019s most notorious crimes but remains unsolved nearly four decades on.
